Sunken Islands will be the next documentary from Eudo Films, and is being supported by the Hervey Benham Charitable Trust.
Below is a statement from Matthew John Harrison about the film:
"After the completion of my film Oyster Land, a documentary about the oyster farmers of Mersea Island, I've decided to focus my efforts next on Sunken Islands, a documentary about what remains of folk culture on the Isles of Essex. The film will focus mainly on the islands Horsey, Mersea, Foulness and Canvey, documenting the rural ways of life as well as each islands timeless customs and traditions.
My intention with making this film is to explore these mysterious islands and their people, because that, possibly in my lifetime, these islands could be swallowed up by rising sea levels this project comes with it a certain urgency to capture something of these strange islands.
The film will be released under my label Eudo Films, and under Eudo Films I will screen Sunken Islands initially on the Islands I filmed on, and then branching out wider to the Essex coast and then inland across the county.
I am deeply interested in the islands along the Essex coast and totally believe in this project as a way to celebrate and preserve their enigmatic atmosphere for the future".
Sunken Islands is currently in it's development stage
